you are a fire (poem)

The sea breeze

brushes my hair back

off my face

like a gentle mother

and heals all my wounds

in this moment,

whispers promises

of rain,

a soft one.

I’ve become old and tired

and we all need a little laughter

to get away

for a moment.

Someone should tell me

“My darling, you knew it long ago,

you love so beautifully

and you are a fire

burning true

keeping safe and warm

tending to self, and in so,

tending to others

steady and calm,

and sometimes raging.

It’s impossible to look away.

You’re mesmerizing, and magic.”

And I’d say, with sea-rain drops

in my eyes

tidaling over,

“Thank you.”
